ScannerCast 1224

Supported Windows Versions and Prerequisite Software

K1PGV's ScannerCast is supported on systems running Windows 2000 or later.  ScannerCast has been tested and is known to work on Windows 2000, Windows XP (32-bit and 64-bit), Windows XP Embedded, Windows Server 2003 (32-bit and 64-bit), Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit), and Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) systems.

Before you can run ScannerCast, you need to have the Microsoft .NET Framework  V2.0 (or later) installed on your computer.  Before you attempt to run ScannerCast, please read about the .NET Framework, how to determine if you have it installed, and how to install it if you don't from this page on my website.  If you're running Windows Vista or Windows 7, this is already installed on your system, so you're all set.

Download the zip archive using the link below (right click and select "Save Link As..." or "Save Target As..." depending on your browser).  Unzip the file to any directory on your computer, for example the directory named C:\ScannerCast.

There's no installation procedure for ScannerCast.  You don't need one!  Just download it and unzip the contents of the ZIP file to a dedicated directory (such as C:\ScannerCast).

After you've downloaded and unzipped ScannerCast as described above, check out the ScannerCast Configuration and Use page for quick, step-by-step, instructions (with pictures, even!) on how to get ScannerCast running.

Initial Setup and Troubleshooting

Most people can configure ScannerCast in about 2 minutes.  Seriously.  That's what people tell me, anyhow!

One thing that makes ScannerCast easy to use is that all the controls have "tool tips" associated with them.  Just place your cursor over a check box, text box, label or whatever and ScannerCast will pop-up an explanation of how to use that item.  Follow the instructions, and let ScannerCast guide you.

For the quickest and easiest startup, check out the Configuration and Use page.  This will give you a good idea of how to setup ScannerCast for to allow you to listen to your scanner across your own LAN or the internet, as well as to forward feeds to Radio Reference if that's what you want to do.

One error the first-time users sometimes report is that they attempt to start ScannerCast and they are greeted with a Windows message saying "The application failed to initialize properly" and an error code 0xC0000135.  Or they get a message saying something about the .Net Framework.  These errors are caused by the Microsoft .NET framework not being installed on your computer. See the Prerequisites and Installation section, above, for how to test for the presence of, download, and install the .Net Framework.
